I Am the Way

Bible Reading: John 14:1-6

Memory Verse:  John 14:6  Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Did you ever get lost following someone’s directions?  Did you ever lose your parents in a store?

Jesus sat with his disciples during “the Last Supper.” This was the last time Jesus ate with his friends before he was crucified. He talked about how he would be leaving them soon. It was a very sad and serious conversation for them.

But Jesus said, “Don’t be upset, guys. You believe in God. Believe in me too.  I’m going to my Father’s house and I’m preparing a place for you. You know where I’m going. You know the way to get there.”

Thomas said, “Lord, we don’t know where you’re going, or the way to get there.”

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Think about that. Jesus said you couldn’t get to the Father without Him. He didn’t say he was one of the ways to get to heaven. He didn’t say he was the best way. He said he was the only way. Nobody could come to God without Him.

If I invited you to my house, I would give you directions to get there. You might say, “No thanks, I’ll just figure it out my own way,” you would certainly get lost. It’s my house and I know the way. Why don’t you just listen?

We are saved by believing in Jesus.  If we trust that He is who he says He is, the son of God, we will go his way. He died on the cross for our sins and rose again making the way for us to go to heaven.

Being really, really good won’t get you to heaven.  How many good things must you do and how will you know when it’s enough? Instead, Jesus paid to remove that sin by his own blood.  By putting our trust in Him, we can be sure that we have a way to heaven.  Because He is the Way.

What about you?

How many good works do you think it would take to earn heaven? Is it possible?

What does it mean to be lost in sin?

Do you know where you are with Jesus?
